We all know that there is a lot of great stuff out there in internet world, but of course there are sites, videos, and images that are unsuitable for children, and it’s important that kids understand how to be safe on line.
Richmond staff is going to be talking to students about strategies to stay safe on the internet, and it would be great if parents talked to their children about the subject as well. The UK Safer Internet Centre has wonderful information available on their website, and advises four basic steps for parents and caregivers.
- Have ongoing conversations with your children about staying safe online
- Use safety tools on social networks and other online services, eg Facebook privacy settings
- Decide if you want to use parental controls on your home internet
- Understand devices and the parental control tools they offer in our Parents’ Guide to Technology
Together we can make sure that our Richmond kids use the internet wisely and appropriately. Thanks!
