This week the general themes in the classroom have been Winter and Christmas.
Please spend some time talking with your child about what happens at this time of year; it gets colder, sometimes it snows, reinforce vocabulary of winter specific clothing; tights, boots, scarf, gloves, hat, coat, etc. Also talk about what we do to prepare for Christmas; decorating the house, putting up a Christmas tree, making cakes, etc. Encourage your child to join in with these types of activities at home when possible.
We have read the story of “Little Red Riding Hood” so if you have it please reread the story at home in English or any other language and encourage your child to join in with the parts of the story that repeat, e.g. “Grandma, what big ears/eyes/teeth you have.” “All the better to……………” You could also talk about why children should not talk to strangers. Read other fairytales at home with your child and talk about good and bad characters in stories.
In Maths we have been exploring the concepts of taller and shorter and measuring the length and height of things in non-standard ways, e.g. with bricks, crayons, hand spans and giant strides. We even measured the length of the classroom with our bodies! Please practice at home.
Have a lovely long weekend.
