Years 5 & 6 Weekly Roundup, Term 1 Week 10

highwaymanThis week in Literacy we looked at the interesting narrative poem ‘The Highwayman’, with its vivid use of language and many descriptive features.

For homework the children have to complete some activities related to this poem.

In Numeracy we have been enthusiastically adding and subtracting lots of fantastic fractions.

Year 5:
Added and subtracted fractions with related denominators.
Year 6:
Added and subtracted fractions and mixed numbers with unrelated denominators.

For homework the children need to answer a range of questions on adding and subtracting fractions.

In Science
Year 5 continued to look at different life cycles including that of a butterfly. Damien showed us his moth which is currently in the cocoon phase of its life cycle. We are looking forward to seeing it transform into life as a moth in its next and final stage.

Adriano also brought in some very interesting creatures in the form of wood lice. We are also watching these creatures with great interest.

In Year 6 the children learnt about the differences between series and parallel circuits. They established what a short circuit is and discussed resistance.

Please remember the book fair is on the 25th November. This is a great opportunity to stock up on some good reading books for the winter!
