Daily newspapers: "Gritream Daily News" Published by the British Ministry of information in Eritrea,Asmara,February1947, March 1946

This week we talked about newspapers and news. They learned the importance of news around the world. We included the words from spelling test in the class so they practiced their meanings in context. We practiced phonics and played games including vocabulary and verbs. Ask your child why is important to be informed about what is going on in the world. In addition, practice the words (sell, buy, pay, spend).

Kids have done a great job in their spellings! Words for next week will be written in the spelling book. Please make sure they complete the First and Second try.

Numeracy

This week children reviewed telling the time, counting in 5s, finding coordinates in a plan, divisions, odd and even numbers, and height and weight. Ask your child what can be measured in kilograms and what can they measure in centimeters. We learned the difference between them. Kids need to practice reading instructions and directions. When practice at home, please read instructions from the homework with them. Make sure they understand BY READING THE DIRECTIONS what they have to do in the worksheets and word problems.*DrChildWeighing

Geography and History

This week kids were very excited about history and how people were in the past. We talked about Christopher Columbus journey and the things people live when traveling. The new places and discoveries and how they make us feel. By doing this, we tried to recreate his voyage. (please ask your child what is needed when traveling to new places (map, compass, food, water) and the meaning of these words (voyage, trip, ship, journey). Ask your child what they would do if they discover a new place.

bean-plant-2This week we learned about the plant life cycle and the different types of plants around the world. We talked about the importance of taking care of the nature and what can we do to preserve plants and animals from extinction. Ask your child the parts of a plant (roots, stem, leaves, petals and flower) and what plants need to grow healthy (seeds, soil, water, sunlight).

Please read with your child 10 minutes every day. Make sure they understand what they are reading. This will help them increase their vocabulary!
